College magazine front cover and contents page analysis

College magazine front cover and contents page analysis

My magazine front cover and contents page uses stereotypical conventions related to a college magazine. It has a logo and a main story line on the front which is typical of magazines. On the front I also have cover lines and smaller images about the inside story lines. On my front cover I have an image of someone reading a book which is typical of a college magazine because colleges are places of learning. The contents page I made has conventions of a magazine like what to expect in the issue, I also have a from the editor paragraph at the bottom. The contents are all related to college and work.
My products are aimed at a social group of wyke students. The magazine would be aimed at any student who goes to wyke or wishes to enrol in the future. I have a stereotype picture on the front of someone reading a book which connotes the learning at wyke and the person I used isn’t in a classroom which could also suggest you will enjoy doing work at wyke even out of the classroom. The age group I aim my magazine at is sixteen to nineteen year olds because that is the college average age barrier.
I aimed to attract my audience by using vivid colours that are eye catching. I decided to do this because most magazines have bright headlines on them so it gives my product realism. I made the price of the magazine £1.50 which is cheap for a magazine so it may influence students to buy it because they don’t usually have much money. On the front I have an offer about free stationary which may appeal to students because they can use it for college and it costs them only the price of the magazine. I added smaller pictures of cover lines which will be included inside the magazine, this isn’t a typical convention but I think they catch the audience’s eye and may persuade them to buy the magazine to see the article that goes with the picture.
The technologies I used in the processing of my magazine were all in Photoshop. I used the transformation tool to rescale my images so I could make them fit and make the cover line photos smaller to fit near them and not take up too much room. I used the text tool, changed the size of the font and the type of font. To get the colour match my image I used the eyedropper tool and then made my text the same colour as the leggings in my image. For the contents page I designed I made the main colour scheme purple to match the college’s logo and I used the transformation too again for my text. I used a rectangle tool as well to make my backgrounds coloured. I used the spot healing brush to change some blemishes on my main image on the front cover. I didn’t edit my products that much because I like how my images turned out.
